# Game Console Sales

> Game Console Sales (https://gameconsolesales.com/) tracks cumulative game console sales with dated model estimates for 5 consoles still on sale and reported or estimated lifetime figures for 24 systems back to the Nintendo Entertainment System (1983). It includes rankings, maker pages and comparisons. Figures may be manufacturer reports, independent estimates or site calculations; measurement bases can differ. Made by Ricardo de Zoete (Hammy): https://hammy.studio/

This file sums up the site for AI assistants and search tools, with the numbers as of October 30, 2026. The pages are prerendered HTML with the same numbers as of the build, their sources and FAQs; in a browser, the counters of consoles still on sale move every second.

## Key facts

- Covers 24 game consoles and handhelds by Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and Valve, 5 of them still on sale.
- "Units sold" means cumulative units worldwide as the source published them: mostly units shipped to stores (sell-in), for a few figures units sold to customers.
- Sources: Nintendo and Sony publish cumulative units every quarter. The PlayStation Vita, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Steam Deck figures include external or site estimates, because Sony, Microsoft and Valve publish no current totals for those systems; their origins are labelled on the timeline. Every figure on a console page names its source and links to the report where one is online.
- Updated after every earnings report: Nintendo in early February, May, August and November, Sony around the same weeks. The newest figure is from October 18, 2026: Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan, from Famitsu (via Gematsu).
- Made by Ricardo de Zoete (Hammy), a Design Lead, UI/UX and AI/agent designer and creative developer from the Netherlands (https://hammy.studio/). Not affiliated with Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft or Valve.

## How the numbers are made

- The published figures are the anchors. Between two of them, the curve is a straight line.
- After the latest figure, a console still on sale keeps counting, with more sales in November and December than in spring. When new figures come out, the counters are corrected to match them.
- Nintendo Switch 2: the live estimate heads for Nintendo's own forecast of 36.36 million units by March 31, 2027.
- Nintendo Switch: the live estimate heads for Nintendo's own forecast of 157.9 million units by March 31, 2027.
- PlayStation 5: the live estimate follows the pace of the past year, scaled by how the latest quarter compared with a year earlier.
- Xbox Series X|S: the live estimate continues at about 2 million units a year.
- Steam Deck: the live estimate continues at about 120,000 units a year.
- Regional numbers: the timelines include maker figures and Famitsu estimates for Japan. Regional breakdowns are shown only when we have a dated, attributed snapshot. Neither changes the worldwide number.
